Kids & Films Initative

The Kids and Film Initiative aims to change the way Iraqi children aged between 8 and 14 engage with digital media. A dual approach is taken. Through creative workshops particularly deprived children are invited to use smartphones creatively through planning, shooting and editing of short films in small groups and with the constant support of professional supervisors. In parallel, jointly with their parents and teachers youth are educated on both the dangers and the opportunities of the use of digital devices, including smartphone and social media addiction and how to tackle them.

The Initiative has started in November 2020 with a pilot project on the outskirts of Baghdad, and is to expand in the coming years to encompass various regions of the country, with a specific focus on war-affected areas.
